Assessment -First Chance

Assessment is the process the college uses to evaluate your skills in areas such as Reading, Writing, Math, and English as a Second Language.

Assessment tests are given several times throughout the year, but you can only take the test once per year. Assessment , along with advisement and orientation, using Asset or COMPASS, takes approximately 3-1/2 hours, and includes receiving results. Use the information below to schedule your test.

Math Center Backup Placement -Second/Last Chance
If you did not receive the required score to get into the class you desire, you can schedule and take a backup placement exam in the Math Learning Center. You can only take this exam once a year, so it is recommended that you review the study material before taking the exam.

Math Learning Center Location: E-2

  1. Call or Visit the Math Learning Center to Schedule an appointment.

Instructions:

  • Study Materials are available online at http://www2.palomar.edu/math/mlc/. In the left column under General Information, click on Math Placement Study Guides. The answers are available for the Practice Problems -scroll down until the end of the file.
  • You must bring valid picture identification. (Example: PIC, Driver’s License, Military ID, etc.) You will NOT be allowed to take the exam without verifiable identification.
  • Know the class you are currently placed in and the class you would like to be placed in.
  • Bring your Palomar College Student Identification Number.
  • The Backup Placement Test is a computerized, multiple-choice test.
  • There is no time limit. However, you will have to finish the test before the Center closes that day.
  • Please go over the study materials as you will not be able to take this test again for another year. Without any review, most likely you will be placed into the same level or lower and you will not be able to take the test over for a year.
  • If you need additional help, please consult a textbook at the appropriate level.
  • Depending on your studying, the questions may or may not look similar to the ones on the study guide.
  • Bring pencils. Scratch paper will be provided as needed.
  • No calculator allowed on the test. An appropriate calculator will appear on the screen, if a problem requires its use.
  • No cell-phones or electronic devices allowed during the test.
  • Bring pencils. Scratch paper will be provided as needed.
  • Be on time. If you are unable to make the scheduled appointment, contact the Center at Ext. 2718.
