Last night my colleagues and I presented our semi-annual plenary break out on Academic Technology at Palomar College. It was well attended, but necessarily by only a small percentage of the enormous number of adjunct professors employed by the college. As a reference for those who did not attend, here is an encapsulated version. We conducted our workshop using the sandbox AT@PC workshop course we had developed. Each professor at Palomar College has an account on our sandbox system. We set the course up for self-enrollment through the Academic Technology Training course, also on the sandbox system. One...

We had a terrific summer Tech Camp. Thanks to all who attended. I feel that valuable skills were obtained and hope that they will be used in your instruction in coming semesters. We featured a number of educational tools and products during camp, and I thought I would summarize the highlights here for those who have lost their notes. The real-time Twitter polls we used were from Polls Everywhere. The free, educational version allows a max of 32 votes. With a little creativity and multiple instances of a poll, even a class larger than 32 can use this fun feature. Remember, you are not limited to...

We will be conducting our annual summer tech camp August 3-6. Don’t bother signing up because it is fully subscribed. (Sorry). It is still over 5 weeks away, but I thought I would review the tentative agenda we have pretty much agreed on so that attendees, and perhaps those planning similar events at other schools, will have some insight into what we are doing. Our inspiration for tech camp this year is the TED talks concept. If you are not familiar with ted.com, rush to that web site without delay to be exposed to the best and brightest people in the world in the fields of technology,...

Today I would like to round out our treatment of the Flip video camera, based on a workshop we delivered last week. I have created three final screen videos to show how to handle files on the Flip camera, how to disconnect it, how to perform a very basic edit (trim a video) and then how to Export files from the FlipShare software to your hard drive, and load and edit them in Windows Live Movie Maker. Rather than embedding the videos, I have placed a thumbnail of their first frame here. Clicking it will take you to the Palomar College Academic Technology web site where you will be able to play the...

Yesterday I posted on a fun workshop we conducted last Friday. The topic was using the Flip video camera to take quick instructional videos, and then editing, uploading, saving, and embedding those videos. Today I would like to provide some how-to videos that will cover the basics of each step along the way. Tomorrow I will provide a couple more to round things out. Rather than embedding the videos here, I have provided thumbnails when clicked will connect with the videos on our Academic Technology pages at Palomar College. 1. Installing the FlipShare software – the software comes pre-loaded...
