AT@PC

Last night my colleagues and I presented our semi-annual plenary break out on Academic Technology at Palomar College. It was well attended, but necessarily by only a small percentage of the enormous number of adjunct professors employed by the college. As a reference for those who did not attend, here is an encapsulated version. We conducted our workshop using the sandbox AT@PC workshop course we had developed. Each professor at Palomar College has an account on our sandbox system. We set the course up for self-enrollment through the Academic Technology Training course, also on the sandbox system. One...

The slideshare mashup tool in Blackboard 9

We have been looking at the new multimedia embed mashup tools in Blackboard 9 this week and today I would like to post a short (3:35) video on how to embed a slideshare.net presentation using the Blackboard 9 tool.  As many faculty members are aware, one way to get PowerPoint presentations on the web is to upload them to slideshare.net and then place the embed code in a Blackboard 8 content area via the HTML edit mode in the visual textbox editor.  With Blackboard 9 it is much simpler and looks much more elegant.  In the screencast below I show how. Note that you do not have to embed a specific...

Tech Camp Agenda

We will be conducting our annual summer tech camp August 3-6.  Don’t bother signing up because it is fully subscribed.  (Sorry).  It is still over 5 weeks away, but I thought I would review the tentative agenda we have pretty much agreed on so that attendees, and perhaps those planning similar events at other schools, will have some insight into what we are doing. Our inspiration for tech camp this year is the TED talks concept.  If you are not familiar with ted.com, rush to that web site without delay to be exposed to the best and brightest people in the world in the fields of technology,...

Using Flip Videos – Part 2

Today I would like to round out our treatment of the Flip video camera, based on a workshop we delivered last week.  I have created three final screen videos to show how to handle files on the Flip camera, how to disconnect it, how to perform a very basic edit (trim a video) and then how to Export files from the FlipShare software to your hard drive, and load and edit them in Windows Live Movie Maker.  Rather than embedding the videos, I have placed a thumbnail of their first frame here.  Clicking it will take you to the Palomar College Academic Technology web site where you will be able to play the...

The Great Haydini

Last Friday we conducted a really fun workshop on using the Flip video camera.  The workshop was also supposed to have also contained a module on using Windows Live Movie Maker to edit together several  videos, but, of course, there was not enough time to include that element in a 2-hour format.  This post will concentrate on lessons learned, and give a little advice to those who might want to use the Flip video camera for academic projects.  Tomorrow I will post the various “how-to” screen videos related to the Flip camera itself, using the FlipShare software that comes with it, and using...
