As a young girl, living in Colombia, my native country, I became interested in learning how to speak English. I had the opportunity to come to the United States during my junior high school years, and learned the language. Later I went to live in Venezuela where I graduated from high school and attended a five-year university, earning a degree in Social Communications. I continued having a desire to become a more fluent English speaker, therefore I returned to the United States to fulfill that goal. I worked for several companies using my bilingual skills. One of the most interesting projects I did was to translate a curriculum guidebook “Community Heath Worker Basic Certificate Program” for the Escondido Neighborhood Healthcare.
Ten years ago I became a Spanish and an ESL tutor for Palomar College, helping students learn these two fascinating languages and contributing to their success in school. In 2008, I became a charter member of the Escondido Bilingual Toastmasters Club, where I currently serve as the President of the club.
Tutoring ESL and Spanish has been a very rewarding and satisfying experience. I really enjoy working at the TLC with the great faculty, staff, and students.
