Look to the Future! – May 2, 3

The focus is on the future with performances by the Palomar Symphony Orchestra and the outstanding Palomar/Youth Philharmonic Orchestra Percussion Ensemble, directed by Heather Barclay. Featured will be Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 (William Kelley, soloist), Johannes Brahms’ Academic Overture and Dello Joio’s Children’s Suite.

Academic Pathways in Music

Exploring the Academic Music Journey:  An interactive conference

When: May 3, 2014 2:00 pm

Where: Palomar College, 1140 W. Mission Rd., San Marcos, CA  92069

Who is invited: High school juniors and seniors who are interested in becoming Music Majors


  • General informational sessions on the major-specific coursework for vocal, instrumental and composition tracks required for music majors at most institutions (including Palomar College)
  • Presentations on careers in music, the Audition and building a composition portfolio
  • Opportunity to perform individually for music faculty
  • Meet with music area advisors to explore options in academia: conservatories, universities
  • Opportunity to speak with current Music majors at Palomar College
  • Register for summer music classes
  • Tours of the Palomar College Performing Arts Department classrooms, computer music lab, practice and rehearsal rooms and the newly renovated Howard Brubeck Theatre
  • Q & A sessions regarding any aspect of majoring in music
  • Hear performances by Palomar College Music Ensembles

Registered attendees will also receive:

  • Free ticket for students only to the Palomar Symphony Orchestra’s evening concert and pre-concert activities

Faculty Dance Concert – May 9-11

Palomar dance faculty members reveal creativity and imagination in what is always a lively dance extravaganza celebrated in a variety of styles: ballet, musical theatre, tap, jazz, Hawaiian/Tahitian, Middle Eastern, ballroom, hip hop and modern dance.

Winds from the West – May 15

The resilient Palomar/Pacific Coast Concert Band, 75 members strong, sends us into summer with the festive program Winds From the West. Featured will be Gioacchino Rossini’s La Danza, Aaron Copland’s Quiet City, George M. Cohan’s Star Spangled Spectacular, and many more. A summer spectacular not to be missed!

Directed by Ken Bell.

Where: California Center for the Arts, Escondido (Center Theatre)
