Jane Masur began studying flute at age 12. She attended San Diego State University where she studied with Fritz Baker. Upon Graduation in 1972, Jane moved to Schöningen Germany and continued her musical pursuits as the Music Director for Realschule Schöningen, Niedersachsen, Germany. While in Germany, she also performed in various locations in the region. Upon her return to the United States in 1975, Jane completed a Master’s Degree in Flute performance at SDSU continuing her studies with Damien Bursill-Hall. After obtaining her master’s, Jane continued her pursuit of musical excellence studying with Sebastian Carratelli and Claude Monteux with whom she now works collaboratively.
Ms. Masur has had the opportunity to perform in various ensembles throughout the San Diego area, performing regularly with the San Diego Choral Arts Ensemble and the Philharmonic Wind Quintet. Touring with the SDCAE Jane has performed in exciting venues throughout Germany, Austria, Italy, England and the Czech Republic. She has soloed at the Bertramka in Prague, celebrating the 200th anniversary of Mozart’s writing of Don Giovanni. Currently Jane holds the position of co-principal flutist for the Palomar Community Orchestra where she also serves on the faculty in the applied music program.
Jane has a well-developed flute pedagogy and chooses appropriate paths for students of all ages ranging from elementary school to adult. Jane has a very active and successful music studio through which she provides guidance, rigorous preparation and coaching for auditions and performance for advanced students entering universities, institutes and conservatories. Jane is also very active in the San Diego Flute Guild, National Flute Association and Music Teachers Association of California. Jane was instrumental in revising and writing the wind syllabus for Certificate of Merit and served on the council for more than ten years.
