Trumpeter and Adjunct Professor Jonathan Ingber began working at Palomar College in 2004. He currently teaches music history and theory, and is on staff as an applied trumpet instructor. A former Director of the Palomar Brass Ensemble, Jonathan also has conducted summer sessions of the Palomar Concert Band. His performances at Palomar include the 2011 premier of Robert Weller’s “Trumpet Concerto” with the Palomar Symphony Orchestra, and Concert Hour with Palomar colleagues Ruth Weber and Mary Jaeb, in 2012.
Jonathan also was an Adjunct Professor at MiraCosta College for 10 years, starting as an applied trumpet instructor. Later, he taught music history and chamber music, and directed the Windjammers Community Concert Band. In addition to college-level teaching, Jonathan conducts the Civic Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble, works as a public school music coach and maintains a private trumpet studio.
Principal Trumpet of Lyric Opera San Diego for 8 years, Jonathan also has worked with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Opera. He has performed as a soloist, and with numerous bands and chamber ensembles including his own quintet, Premier Brass.
Jonathan holds degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music (M.M., 1988) and the University of Southern California (B.M., 1986). He studied under Charles Schlueter, Boston Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet (Ret.), and Boyde Hood, Los Angeles Philharmonic Trumpet (Ret.).
Born and raised in San Diego, Jonathan lives in Carlsbad with his wife and daughter. He enjoys photography, videography and website design. An alumnus of Civic Youth Orchestra, Jonathan is very proud that his daughter, a violinist, also plays in the program.
