The psychology discipline at Palomar college is fortunate to offer several great scholarship opportunities:

Milstein Family Scholarships

Milstien AwardThe Milstein family scholarships were created in 1999 with the assistance of Dr. Haydn Davis (retired), while head of the psychology department at Palomar College and Dale Wallenius, director of the Palomar College Foundation. Louis N. Milstein, adjunct psychology professor, who has been in the San Diego Community College system since 1977, made an initial contribution and contributions now from both his family’s philanthropic fund and him have perpetuated the scholarship, giving annual awards to deserving Palomar college students who have exhibited academic excellence and a commitment to a career in psychology.

The scholarships recognize 3 outstanding students each year with a scholarship to support their education.  Recipients for the Milstein Psi Beta Honors Psychology Scholarship must be a registered member of Psi Beta (national honors society for psychology), demonstrate academic excellence, and have an intention to pursue a career in psychology. Award Requirements: Psi Beta Member; 3.25 GPA; 12+ college units completed; Completed 1+ psychology class with a B or better; Attends at least 1 Psi Beta meeting each semester.  Recipients for the Milstein-Davis Psychology Means Success scholarship do not have to be members of Psi Beta but must attend at least 1 Psychology Club meeting each semester.

Milstein Psi Beta Honors Psychology Scholarship – One applicant will be selected to receive a $1500 scholarship (an increase from $1000 in its inaugural year) and second will receive a $500 award.  It is our intention to increase the award every year going forward to reward the “best of the best” student who demonstrates a commitment to a career in psychology.

Palomar Multicultural Psychology Scholarship

Dr. Judy Wilson, along with her husband, Al, Judy%20-%20Main%20Portrait%20-%20Full%20Resestablished this scholarship aimed towards helping first-generation Latino students transfer to a 4-year university.  Dr. Wilson was a graduate of Palomar College and received a B.A. in Psychology from CSUSM, an M.A. in Psychology (Teaching Track) from CSU, Bakersfield, and a doctorate in Education Studies (Teaching and Learning) from UCSD focusing on developing an empowerment model of retention for Latino students at community colleges.  She had also done research on how service learning contributes to the development of empathy. Dr. Wilson taught at Palomar from 2004 until she passed away in 2016.

The award will provide $1000 to be used towards the transfer to a 4-year university by a first-generation college student at Palomar who has a Latino cultural identity.
