CSU San Marcos deadline approaches

The application deadline for California State Universities is fast approaching with applications for Fall of 2013 due at the end of the month.

The priority application period for CSUs is Oct. 1 through Nov. 30.

Due to budget cuts admission space is limited, but with the recent passing of Prop. 30, the budget could be slightly alleviated.

Palomar students ready for transfer can receive local area admission to CSU San Marcos, according to the Cal State San Marcos transfer admission website.
Specific requirements for admission to CSU San Marcos are as follows, a student who is entering upper division course work and has completed at least 60 semester units prior to transfer, has a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher, and is in good standing at the last institution attended.  Also, completion in the four Basic Skills General Education requirements, which includes Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, and Quantitative Reasoning/Mathematics with a grade of “C” or higher.  A completion of a minimum 30 semester units in general education courses is also required. For Fall 2013 admission, all requirements must be completed by the end of the preceding spring term. Courses completed in Summer of 2013 will not be considered in the admissions evaluation. Applicants who have completed fewer than 60 units are not considered for admission at CSU San Marcos.

There are five majors that are impacted at the upper division level as CSUSM, which include Business Administration, Communication, Kinesiology, Mass Media, and the Basic Nursing Program. Applicants are encouraged to apply to other institutions as a back up in case they are not admitted.

According to CSUSM website, the estimated cost of attendance for 2012-2013 is  $23,258, a price that reflects full-time enrollment. Financial aid applications will begin to be accepted on Jan. 1, 2013. You do not need to be admitted to begin the financial aid process. CSU San Marcos also administers several scholarships, more information can be found at www.csusm.edu/finaid.

To apply, visit csumentor.com, fill out and submit an application and a required application fee of $55. Official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended, application fee, and residency information are due  by Feb. 1, 2013.
