For work at home, this class requires Adobe PhotoshopCS5. After enrolling in this class you are eligible for academic prices on software. You can purchase the educational version of Photoshop at the following websites: www.journeyed.com, www.gradware.com or www.collegesoftware.org.

Catalog Description

The concepts of intermediate digital imaging with Adobe Photoshop for visual,pictorial and graphic use in all media. Effective image creation for motion graphics, publications and internet for effective visual communications.

Specific Course Objectives

-Explain program management for allocations, preferences, and hardware requirements.
-Solve image problems with functions of the application.
-Apply principles for using digital imaging as a design tool.
-Demonstrate the use of the application as a production tool.
-Demonstrate the creative capabilities of the application.
-Demonstrate intermediate level of digital editing skills.
-Apply the principles of color theories.
-Demonstrate object oriented and digital files in collaboration.
-Demonstrate the ability to create graphics for the web.
-Demonstrate the use of digital imaging capturing devises.
-Explain design concepts in used in image development.
-Demonstrate the concepts to develop steps in project planning.
-Identify quality control needs for export files.
-Demonstrate safe use of the equipment.
-At completion of the course students will demonstrate an intermediate level understanding of Digital Imaging by completing a Digital Portfolio Project consisting of 7 images. Images will show use and understanding of the following processes: image enhancement; tonal correction; image retouching and repairing; smart objects; multiple layers, layer masks and layer groups; adjustment layers; layer styles and effects; text object layers; blending modes; gradients; output of images to web display or printed page.

on January 17, 2012 the first day of the semester. Students registered for this class will use their nine-digit student identification number for both their password and UserID to login. Be sure to type in all 9 digits. However, if you have taken other classes using Blackboard at Palomar College, and changed your password, you should use the password that you have used most recently.

Once you are logged on to the system, click on the link to the 2012 Spring GCIP 141 DIGITAL IMAGING/PHOTOSHOP II 32580. Then read the Announcements that you will see on the first page. They contain instructions on what to do. You can log onto the website whenever it is convienent for your schedule.
