These are some letter written by students in my Spring 1994 class:

Dear Student,

Start your papers early, especially the term paper. I waited too long and really felt rushed. When Chris states that she will make corrections within your works cited and your quotes within your paper, she absolutely will. Take advantage of this offer. Have your paper totally done one week before it's due and take advantage of her offer. You're in for a treat. By the end of the class, you'll know every student in your class. It's really a fun, positive class; very positive, interesting experience.

To the future students,

This is a good class, the work isn't too hard. Just get it done.

I'm a total procrastinator and for some obscure reason I didn't. That saved me. The best advice I can give to you is to slowly chip away at the term paper, get your research done early--you can't really have too much. Also, check your paper with Chris often. I was never a person to ask for help, but I went to her and she totally helped out. She'll give you ideas and pointers, and be sure to have her look over your format . . . repeatedly.

The term paper is the biggest ordeal in the class, but it doesn't have to be a hell. Just don't procrastinate and listen to her pointers.

Dear Students:

Buckle your seatbelt. Get ready for a wild ride. The most important thing to remember about Mrs. Barkley's English100 class is keep up with homework. Or you'll bury yourself like I did. Trust me, you'll regret it if you don't. Also, Chris is very helpful if you use her. She does her best to make herself available to take advantage of it. And finally RELAX. Chris is not a monster. She's willing to change her opinions based on new data and is very approachable with your problems. Good luck.

Dear Student,

Are you ever in for a tough semester. Chris does expect a lot from you. She is extremely understanding, however. She also is very willing to help you with any questions you may have. She's an extremely tough grader, but she has high expectations of her students. The truly great thing is her goals for you are attainable, if you try. The best thing is that she gives you many chances. I believe it's best not to abuse that, however. She's truly a special person and one everybody was meant to learn from. Have fun!

Dear student,

The simplest advice that I can give you is to keep up with due dates, making absolutely sure what is due and when it is due. There are many assignments that overlap throughout the semester. When the assignments are introduced at the beginning of the semester, it doesn't sound that bad. And in reality it's not, but you must keep up with the due dates.

Christine is a very helpful teacher and willing to work with you at all times. Take advantage of this and let her help you. We are never beyond help. Good luck and don't give up. --a survivor

Dear Person,

I know you will enjoy English 100. It will open your mind to greater imagination, and it will allow you to appreciate in greater extent anything you read. Don't be closed minded, absorb everything in the class. If you can do that, you will learn many things about yourself. Have fun!

Dear student,

In Ms. Barkley's class it's very important to keep up with assignments. You will probably need more time than allowed to write your papers well. Don't put off starting your research. The term paper, particularly, is a very difficult assignment. This class is very interesting, but it is a lot of work. Don't be fooled by the laid-back attitude of our instructor.

Dear student,

This class will be a challenge to you. Be prepared to use your mind to the fullest. It will also be the most interesting class. It will prepare you for any future classes you may have along with the other classes you are taking. This class will also be harder than you will expect. You will have to devote a lot of time to this class, mostly researching and reading.

Dear Student;

I hope you enjoy writing! You can find topics you will enjoy. Chris gives enough room that you can explore something you enjoy. The term paper is not that hard if you give yourself enough time. Good luck.
