Cristina Tejeda, MFA
Associate Professor Cristina, BFA from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and MFA from San Diego State University in 2000. She has been a part of the faculty at Palomar College for 20 years. Famous names, prestigious theaters, and well-known films fill her resume.Cristina Tejeda worked professionally in the costume and fashion industry for many years, having worked on costume projects with leading designers such as opera designer Ruben Ter-Arutunian (Santa Fe Opera), film designers Charles Knode and Michael Kaplan (Blade Runner), and television designers Rickie Hansen and Bob Mackie. For her sabbatical, Cristina conducted cultural research in McLeod Ganj, India, home to H.H. Dalai Lama and a thriving Tibetan refugee colony whose existence, culture, and traditional skills are at risk of extinction. She continues her quest here in the United States to assist skilled Tibetan people by spearheading a program whose aim is to preserve and pass on important cultural traditions and ancient textile practices. Cristina has taught most of the design courses in the Fashion Program at one time or another. She is currently teaching Costume and Culture, Fashion Illustration, and Basic Sewing and Fashion Studio Design. |
