Large numbers of children aged four years and older, most unescorted and speaking not a word of English, were moved by train to schools hundreds of miles away from their families.  They and their families had no choice in the matter.  Agents came to Indian homes and seized the children, often ripping them from their parents' arms under threats of imprisonment.  The children were tagged and transported to a school.  This photo shows the destination tags tied to the clothing of the children for their journey where they were passed from conductor to conductor until they reached their destination where they were stripped, shorn and remade in the image of White America.  How would you have  felt if this had happened to you?
