Housefront

Bear greets visitors and reminds them that the family living within claims a special relationship to the bear.  Notice that Bear surrounds the door hole which is just large enough to admit one person on their hands and knees at a time.

Bear is one of the easily recognizable conventionalized forms.  He is recognizable by his distinctive squared-off ears, his heavy eyebrows, and his pronounced nostrils.  Bear frequently is depicted with human hands and bear feet complete with claws.  Another conventionalization of form is the use of an eye symbol to indicate joints in the extremities.
