The coiled storage basket on the left was made by a Cowlitz woman late in the 19th century.  It is made of cedar with beargrass (white) and cedar bark (dark) imbrication.  the design is referred to as a mountain design.

The coiled storage basket on the right was made by a woman from Skagit in the late 19th century.  It is notable because it reverses the general use of a light background and a dark design.  It is made of cedar root with beargrass (white), cedar bark (dark) and wild cherry bark (medium).

Collection of Jerry and Anne Vander Houwen.
