Workshop Descriptions

   Elimination and End Play Technique

Elimination play is the technique of eliminating exit cards from an opponent’s hand.  The purpose of the elimination is to ultimately “throw in” an opponent to “ end play them “ by forcing them either to lead a suit that will inevitably present you with an extra trick or to give you a “ruff and a sluff( discard)”.  In either case the opponent will have to give you an extra trick.  This workshop will show you in a simple way how to recognize these opportunities and how to execute them.

     Pre-emptive Bidding

There are many approaches to opening and responding to a “weak two bid.”  Ron Klinger in his excellent book The Modern Losing Trick Count discusses an easy way to bid more effectively using a losing trick count method.  This method can also be used in determining whether or not to open other pre-emptive bids.  This workshop will explain how to evaluate a hand’s “losers” and how to apply this method to opening and responding to pre-empts.  The losing trick count approach is used once a “ fit “ of at least eight cards between the two hands has been found.  If you have an eight card fit or longer fit , the losing trick count method offers an easier and more precise way of finding your games and/or slams.

How to count a complete deal

Learn how to count the distribution of a hand.  Counting the hand is extremely helpful on many occasions.  This workshop will show you how to determine the distribution on hands where it can greatly enhance your declarer play and defense.

The Simple Squeeze

The most exciting bridge technique is the squeeze play.  This workshop  shows you how to recognize, prepare, and play a simple squeeze.   All of the necessary skills are introduced and explained through a combination of discussion, play and example hands.
