Beginning Bridge
- Description
The beginning bridge course is
designed for those first learning how to play bridge or as a refresher course
for those players that want to improve their bidding.
This class teaches the Standard American System.
Each class combines both lecture and play. The lecture introduces the
fundamentals whereas the play allows the student to practice the ideas
introduced in the lecture. Jim
Martin, the instructor, has been teaching bridge for over fifteen years.
He is very patient and makes learning fun.
The Club series textbook by Audrey Grant is used in this course and can
be purchased from the instructor.
Intermediate and Advanced Workshops
Elimination and End Play Technique Descriptions
Elimination
play is the technique of eliminating exit cards from an opponent’s hand.
The purpose of the elimination is to ultimately “throw in” an
opponent to “ end play them “ by forcing them either to lead a suit that
will inevitably present you with an extra trick or to give you a “ruff and a
sluff ( discard)”.
In either case the opponent will have to give you an extra trick.
This workshop will show you in a simple way how to recognize these
opportunities and how to execute them.
Learn
how to count the distribution of a hand. Counting
the hand is extremely helpful on many occasions.
This workshop will show you how to determine the distribution on hands
where it can greatly enhance your declarer play and defense.
Card-reading – How the experts find the missing honors
Learn how to use logical reasoning in locating the missing high cards. The card-reading workshop will explain how to make logical deductions from the opponents bidding and opening leads. You will also learn how to make decisions from what is not bid or played by the opponents.
The most exciting play of the hand technique is the squeeze play.
This workshop shows you how to recognize, prepare, and play a simple
squeeze.
All of the necessary skills are introduced and explained through a
combination of discussion, play and example hands.
