Beginning Bridge
- Description
Beginning bridge is designed for players without any bridge experience. You will learn at a comfortable pace the basic fundamentals of card play. The classes will include learning how to follow suit, how to discard, how to count points, how to open the bidding bids and how to make initial responses. In addition to initial opening and responses, we will also cover opener's rebids, responder rebids, the takeout and penalty double and overcalling,. The Standard American system is explained by a combination of lecture and play. The lecture introduces the bidding concepts. The play gives the student the opportunity to practice the ideas introduced in the lecture. Instructional hands are bid and played in each class session. We will be using the popular Audrey Grant textbook called the club series. Books will be available at the first class meeting for $10.
Intermediate Bridge - Play of the Hand
Having confidence is important when it comes to playing bridge. This class will build your confidence by focusing on your declarer play. You will learn how to make a PLAN. The PLAN is the strategy in how to play a hand correctly. This includes recognizing and practice in several different techniques. Techniques covered include promotion and length, the finesse, trumping and discarding, careful attention to entries and the hold up play. We also cover the topics of when to pull trumps and when not to pull trumps as well as how to combine techniques and choose between alternatives. The Diamond series textbook by Audrey Grant will be used to enhance your declarer play. There will be a $10 dollar textbook fee collected at the first meeting for those players that do not already have a text. . Jim Martin is an A.C.B.L. registered teacher and has taught bridge for many years.
