American Food Cuisine Review

You will choose one regional American food/recipe that you enjoy, experienced or were influenced by. Your choice should have some context in a particular food cuisine of a region or sub region of America and have some influence on a native or immigrant community as well as a broader influence in American culture. Your paper should be about 3-5 pages with references at the end. Your references can include an interview with a family member. If you are a foreign national then you can pick a cuisine that you grew up with and access whether it had any influence in America.

Suggested outline

Description: What is the names used for the recipe and its ingredients? How is the recipe prepared? How is it eaten and/or what is the context of consumption?

Cultural Context: Start with the context that you experienced for the recipe. Did you grow up eating this on a regular basis or for special occasions? Is this the context of the original recipe from its origins? Why are the ingredients used and how have they changed?

Influences: How pervasive is this recipe in American culture? What changes did this recipe have on American culture? What influence did this recipe have on you?
