What Joy Is . . .

by Kimberly A. Zanini

Joy, undefined, so broadly spread,

can be so many things, more than could possibly be said.

Joy is the simplicity of sugar so sweet,

the bubbles, the laughter, the tickling of feet.

Joy can be found in tears of laughter, or a smile,

or the innocence of a child.

But more than that,

joy can be found in a calm night

sprinkled with friends and conversations that are lost in the wind.

Joy is knowing that life's treated you well,

understanding your purpose, and...

breathing

the simplicity of which we take for granted,

so often throwing this fragile dish of life aside

for frivolous pleasures that never last.

So, yes, wrap yourself in it, cradle it with a fervor undefined,

let it grow like Alice until the transient shrinks out of mind.
