Hello, my name is Karina Gutierrez-Ortiz and I have been working with children at the lab school for four years. I recently graduated from Palomar College with an AA in Child Development and plan on returning to school for my Bachelors. My favorite part about being a Master Teacher in early childhood is watching children learn new skills through play. In my classroom expect to see children enjoying water play, using sign language and listening to music from different cultures. I am also very passionate about working with parents because parents are a child’s most important teacher. When I’m not at the Lab school I enjoy taking my dog to the beach and spending time with my family.

Welcome! My name is Wendy Medina and I am very excited to be the Master Teacher in Room 7PM. I attended Palomar College and obtained an A.A. degree in Working with Children and Families. I then transferred to CSUSM and I obtained my B.A. in Child and Adolescent Development this past spring. I also hold my California Master Teacher Permit. I have been working for the ECE Lab School at their San Marcos location for four years and now I have been given a great opportunity to work at their Escondido site.
I was born and raised in Oceanside where I currently live. I am the oldest of three siblings and I love to spend time with my family. I also enjoy going to the movies, going out to eat, and spending time with friends. I am also a huge soccer fan, I used to play soccer myself and now I enjoy watching the games and attending them. I also like to be active, which come in handy when working with children, and do so by going to the gym and running by the beach.

My name is Christina Mendez and I have had the privilege of being part of the ECE Lab School for about 7 years. I started at the San Marcos Campus for about six years and then transferred to the Escondido campus as a Master Teacher. I have really enjoyed working for the lab school and I have grown and learned so much. I majored in Human Development with an emphasis of Children Service and received my Bachelor’s degree at Cal State San Marcos. I currently hold a site supervisor permit and also have an Associate’s Degree in Child Development with an emphasis in Working with Families.
I love to implement a lot of art in the classroom and watch the children use their creativity, hands, and imagination. Not only does art help with brain development, but I believe art is a way of self-expression and communication.
Outside of the work place I am a wife and a mommy of a 12 year old, Destiny, (who already acts like a teenager) and I couldn’t be any happier. I enjoy doing outside activities, traveling with my family, music and sporting events.
