Canvas and Using a Dashboard Card Image

For this installment of “How to Canvas” let’s examine one way to draw student attention to your course site. On the Dashboard in Canvas students see what is called Course Cards, which are set to randomly assigned colors. As the instructor you can place an image on that course card, which should help your course stand out when students are scanning their dashboard screen.

First, about those course cards, the color they are set to is different for all users, so be sure you don’t tell your students something like “click on the bright green card.” But the dashboard card image WILL be displayed to all users, so at least that will be consistent across all your students.

To set the course card image, just go into the Settings screen in your course, and the first entry on the Course Details tab displays your course card image. Just click the button to set one, or if one is already set just click the gear icon in the upper right corner to change or remove the image.
