Faculty/Staff

You may observe or come into regular contact with a student who is struggling with any of the following: anxiety, depression, stress, grief/loss, drug and alcohol problems, family and relationship issues. The link to Kognito for Faculty and Staff under Resources may be helpful in determining how best to talk to a student about your concerns and/or referring them to Behavioral Health Counseling Services.

General guidelines when a referral might be indicated include:
  • Presenting problem beyond your scope of knowledge
  • Consideration of safety for the student or others
  • Knowledge of the student on any other basis than your professional role (relative, neighbor, etc.)
  • Belief that contact between yourself and the student will be ineffective (e.g., scheduling/time challenges, personality differences, student reluctant to talk to you)

Please feel free to contact BHCS staff for additional help or information.
