The Legal Studies program in the Business Administration Department at Palomar College offers the following programs of study:
Students who wish to double major at UCSD will be afforded maximum flexibility in the selection of elective courses. The Legal Studies A.A. degree also provides preparation for transfer to a university or the UCSD Extension Paralegal Certificate Program. Students should seek early advising for transfer. - Can I apply to the UCSD Extension Paralegal Program with an Associate’s Degree?
Although the UCSD Paralegal Certificate Program is a post‐baccalaureate program, students graduating from
Palomar College with an Associate’s Degree are eligible to enroll.
- How many credits will transfer to the UCSD Extension Paralegal Certificate Program?
Students who complete an Associate of Arts in Legal Studies at Palomar College may transfer up to nine credits in three pre‐approved courses.
- Which classes will transfer?
The courses that are currently approved for transfer are LS 105/Legal Communications & Methods, LS 121/Introduction to Law, and LS 145/Legal Ethics.
- What if the courses were taken many years ago?
The American Bar Association requires that students complete all paralegal courses within a four‐year period. As a result, only credits earned within the four‐year period of study will be accepted. If you immediately enroll in the UCSD Paralegal Certificate program after two years at Palomar College, your courses will transfer for at least two years after your Palomar graduation.
- How do I transfer my courses?
Students wishing to transfer their Palomar courses should notify Julia Dunlap, Director of Business and Legal Education, that they intend to transfer courses at the time they begin their application processes. Her email is email@example.com.
- Do my grades transfer?
No, your grades will not transfer as this is essentially a course waiver.
