The following discussion took place at the October 11, 2017 meeting of the Human Resource Services Planning Council:
• Center for Urban Education Conference
Several Palomar employees, representing different areas of the College, attended a recent two-day conference focusing on equity in faculty hiring at community colleges. The Palomar group is currently working on an Action Plan and will give a presentation on it at an SPC meeting upon completion.
• Employee Recognition Programs
The faculty recognition event was reinvented last Spring. The result was a very successful event with a greater number of participants. HRSPC members were asked to think about ways to improve recognition events for the other employee groups.
• Professional Development Plan
The PD Committee is currently working on a Professional Development Plan, which is required per California Education Code. The Committee is also in the process of carefully reviewing the responses from a recent survey that requested employee training needs.
• Standing Reports
The Benefits Committee is working to produce a benefits survey. The College switched to a new plan through SISC effective January 2016 and the Committee is interested in finding out from employees what their experiences have been thus far.
EEO Advisory Committee:
An orientation (training) was presented to members of the EEOAC at their October 5th meeting. This group is responsible for the development of the Palomar College Equal Employment Opportunity Plan; a requirement of Title 5 §55305.
