About Me

Because the primary purpose of this website is professional and not personal, the reader will find very little about my personal life. However, I may make a few exceptions in this “About Me” section and introduce my beautiful, bright, talented, creative, fun and funny kids. Here they are in Japan (July 2017):

The tagline for this website is Part Time, All the Time. This is a deliberately misleading tagline that suggests as much about me personally as it does professionally. I teach part time, I write part time, I raised a family full time, and I maintain a home, all the time. Fortunately, I’m not the main bread-winner, and, truth be told, I prefer teaching part-time. Teaching five classes would leave very little time for what I consider to be luxuries: reading, writing, blogging, cooking, working out, gardening, visiting my kids, and learning new skills (like creating websites).

As for my professional background, I’ve been teaching part-time at Palomar since the summer of 2000, and see no reason to stop. I also did quite a bit of freelance writing during this time, especially while my children were young. Over time, teaching began to eclipse writing. I’m not sure why, other than to suspect that both of these endeavors tap into the same creative “well,” so to speak, and at a certain point I found myself devoting more creative time and energy to classroom duties and less to writing. The last few years I’ve been trying to rediscover my writing “voice” and began blogging. And attached below is the latest version of my professional portfolio and a list of published works.
