2021 English Department Scholarship
The Betty Webb and Richard Norlin Memorial Prize
$500 First Prize (plus additional prizes)!
The English Department awards an annual cash scholarship (and some additional prizes, if warranted) to outstanding English majors in our program. The scholarship is named after two valued former colleagues–Betty Webb and Dick Norlin–who devoted their careers to instilling in students a love of reading and writing. Application materials typically include the following:
Who is eligible: a current student at Palomar who has not previously been awarded the scholarship.
Qualifications: an English major or someone with a strong interest in the major who plans to transfer to a four-year college/university; a GPA of 3.0 or better; completion of English 100.
Applications Must Include:
- A short letter of intent, explaining who you are and your Make sure you include an email and your student ID so we can contact you. (about 500 words)

- One faculty reference from the Palomar College English Department (contact information only; no recommendation letter is required)
