Betty Webb & Richard Norlin Memorial Scholarship

Congratulations to our 2019-2020
Betty Webb & Richard Norlin Scholarship

First Prize (co-winners): Dylan Brintwood & Ryan Laffin
Second Prize: Nick Lopez

The English Department awards an annual cash scholarship (and some additional prizes, if warranted) to outstanding English majors in our program. The scholarship is named after two valued former colleagues–Betty Webb and Dick Norlin–who devoted their careers to instilling in students a love of reading and writing. Application materials typically include the following:

  • A short letter of intent, explaining who you are and your qualifications. Make sure you include an email and your student ID so that we can contact you. (about 500 words)
  • An essay of at least five hundred words that demonstrates your ability with the language. It may be a new essay or one that was previously submitted for an English class here at Palomar.
  • One letter of recommendation from a member of the Palomar College English Department.
