Emergency Funding/HEERF Grants

Palomar College is happy to announce we have new funding to assist eligible students with costs associated with attending college courses during remote operations as a result of COVID-19. Whether you need help with books, enrollment fees, food and or other costs we encourage you to apply now! Awards will be prioritized for students with exceptional need, and funding will be allocated until exhausted.
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) was signed into law to provide additional economic relief from COVID-19. One section of the CRRSA Act established the Higher Education Emergency Relief fund part II that granted funds to schools to provide emergency grants to students for expenses related to:
o Any component of the student’s cost of attendance (COA); or
o Emergency costs that arise due to Coronavirus, such as but not limited to tuition, food, housing, health care, mental health care, or childcare.
Unlike HEERF I funds, HEERF II awards do not have to relate to the disruption of campus operations due to Coronavirus, but the school is required to prioritize students with exceptional need. In addition, students do not have to meet Title IV eligibility criteria as defined under the Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). HEERF II funds have limitations related to citizenship. The Financial Aid office will review and use other aid resources until exhausted for all groups of students. Funding is on a first-come first-serve bases until funds are exhausted.

HEERF II Grant Eligibility

The Palomar HEERF II online application is available on your MyPalomar page if you have filed the following:

- 2020-2021 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

-2020-2021 CADA (California Dream Application)

The application lists the eligibility criteria and if those are MET or UNMET based on your FAFSA or CADA form and your college records.   You will also be asked to identify one or more COVID-19 expenses you have incurred due to coronavirus-related campus disruption.

HEERF II criteria is listed below:
  • Enrolled in credit classes for Spring 2021
  • Have an Official 2020/2021 FAFSA or CADA application on file
  • Required to be a US Citizen/Permanent Resident/Eligible Non-Citizen
  • Not have already been awarded the original HEERF Grant
  • Not been awarded the Disaster Relief Grant for Spring 2021 (funds have been exhausted)
  • Complete the on-line HEERF II application
    • Award Amounts:
      • .5 to 5.5 units: $375
      • 6+ units:  $750

  • .5 to 5.5 units: $375.00
  • 6+ units: $750.00

The HEERF grant will be disbursed to you by check to the address listed in your MyPalomar account.  Please make sure your mailing address information is correct.
