Throughout the state, accelerated math programs have demonstrated higher success rates than traditional math sequences. They require more short-term commitment from students in return for the long-term gain of faster and more assured success in their mathematics requirements. All of the following programs employ an inquiry-based approach, group work, and hand-on activities in the classroom many with embedded tutors.
Algebra for Statistics
Description: One-semester, 6 unit course that prepares students for Math 120 and/or Psyc/Soc 205. It is an single-semester path to statistics. Student Profile: Non-STEM students whose majors require a single college level math class as a GE requirement.
AMG is a two-semester learning community which meets 6 hours per week each semester. AMG provides a combination of lecture sessions with your instructor, hands-on learning activities with your peers in groups, tutoring support and ample opportunities for exploring and discovering ideas inside and outside of class. The first semester (AMG 1) is a 6 unit learning community and the second semester (AMG 2) is 4 units. This is an accelerated, enriched, single-year path to calculus that is an alternative to the traditional three-semester Math 60/115/135 sequence. Accelerated Math Gateway (AMG 1) for STEM or Business Majors
How to enroll : Math 75 and 110 in Spring 2019
Prerequisite: Placement into Math 56 or 60.
Student Profile: Students who need to take Calculus I (Math 140) or Calculus for Business and Social Sciences (Math 130). STEM and Business students starting at the Math 60 level who wish to accelerate their calculus prerequisites in a cohort with abundant student support.
Note: Upon completion of AMG 1, business majors will be able to enroll in Math 130, Calculus for Business and Social Sciences.
Accelerated Math Gateway (AMG 2) for STEM Majors
How to enroll : Math 115 and Math 76 in Spring 2019
Prerequisite: Math 60 with grade C or higher, or placement into Math 110, 115 or Math 135 or completed AMG 1.
Student Profile: Students who need to take Calculus I (Math 140). STEM students with a strong background in algebra who wish to complete their calculus prerequisites in a single semester in a cohort with abundant student support. Note: Upon completion of AMG 2, students will be able to enroll in Math 140 Calculus I.
