About Work

In May 2023 after 15 years working for Palomar College I earned the title of Professor.
When first hired at Palomar in 2008 I was the Branch Center Librarian at the Escondido Center Library. It was wonderful to be awarded tenure in Spring 2012 after successfully completing my Faculty probation. In Fall 2012 I was offered the position of Systems and Technology Librarian due to a colleague’s resignation. I have served in that role now for the bulk of my tenure at Palomar.

During the remainder of this time I have had several additional challenging and fulfilling opportunities as part of the Palomar Library Department. From 2018-2021 I served as a Chair (2019-2020) and Co-Chair (2018 and 2021) for my Department. This role was in addition to my duties as Systems/Technology Librarian. As a Chair and Co-Chair I had specific responsibility for the Library & Information Technology (LIT) Program, assist in preparing the department’s Program & Resource Planning (PRP) documents, and share in the directing and maintaining the Library’s services and resources.

My Systems duties include being the library’s webmaster and the coordinator for our library service platform (LSP).  Between 20The platform, an OCLC product, consists of the WorldShare Management Services [WMS] for staff use  and WorldCat Discover [WCD] public  catalog. Thanks to funding from the state of California Palomar is one of 110 Community College libraries that will be adopting a statewide LSP. The new LSP, a product of ExLibris, will ‘go live’  in January 2020. Our library staff will now use Alma and the general Palomar  community will use Primo VE as the public catalog.  These ExLibris products are also the LSP used by libraries of the California State Universities.

I am Palomar’s Project Lead for this migration. Since February 2019 Palomar’s LSP migration team have been working with a team (3 other Librarians and 3 Library Technicians) to prepare our library data and patron information to migrate to ExLibris, be correctly displayed and fully functional for providing access to physical materials and electronic resources.

Since Spring 2017 I have served as the Region 10 representative on the Executive Board of the Council of Chief Librarians.
