Scholarship Donors

The Janine & Pierre Gilles Scholarship was established by Pierre and Janine Gilles’ 4 children to honor the lifelong support of education and learning values given them by their parents. The children and extended family members created the scholarship as an outgrowth of plans to celebrate Pierre’s 90th birthday in September 2013. Listed below in birth order are the names of their children with biographical information about each of them.

Pierre C. Gilles

Pierre C. Gilles

As a first born son, Pierre is his father’s namesake. He also followed in his father’s footsteps and studied medicine. Pierre has practiced as a general surgeon for over 30 years, most of them in Scottsdale Arizona. Married, the father of 5 and grandfather of 2, is an avid fiction reader (especially of science fiction), a jazz aficionado and a competitive card player. Although quiet by nature, Pierre’s devoted ‘servant heart’ and dedication to medicine has resulted in his being twice named to the Top Docs list of Phoenix Magazine.

Marlene G. Forney

Marlene G. Forney

Marlene is the eldest daughter. She is a career librarian, married with 1 son and 1 granddaughter. Her passions are technology, education and family. She has been called ‘the picture lady’ by both colleagues, friends and loved ones. She and her husband, Craig Forney, are Palomar faculty and donate to the fund through payroll deductions.

Regine D. Lindor

Regine D. Lindor

Regine, like her sister, is a middle child. She worked in corporate accounts with American Express in New York City for nearly 20 years. After her position was ‘right-sized’ she and her family relocated to Houston. Regine re-tooled and now works as a paralegal. She and her husband are parents of 2 boys and 2 girls. They are both fierce card players. When the families gather she often trounces her big brother, no matter the game.

Louis D. Gilles

Louis D. Gilles

Louis, known as Lou, originally trained as an electrical engineer. After nearly 20 years in corporate positions (with companies such as EDS, Sprint, Cox, etc.) he enrolled in medical school and is beginning his residency as a Dr. of Podiatric Medicine. He and his wife also have a family of 2 boys and 2 girls. Family members often consult with ‘baby brother’ Dr. Lou, given his talent for negotiation and insightful nature.
