What is Anthropology?
Anthropology is one of the most exciting fields within the social and natural sciences. As anthropologists we ask “what does it mean to be human?” Our answer to this question is an adventure, one that may take us to ruined cities in the deserts of Asia, to families of gorillas on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, to the busy markets of Paris, and to the Amazon to record endangered languages. Anthropology is the most humanistic discipline of the natural sciences and the most scientific discipline of the humanities. Anthropology is unique in that it uses a four-field approach that examines all our human experiences. With a degree in Anthropology you will gain insight into the archaeological, biological, cultural, and linguistic perspectives on humanity that are critical for many career paths. No matter where your ultimate path takes you, a degree in Anthropology provides you with a window into other ways of life and a better understanding of the world in which people live. Anthropology graduates find employment in local and international corporations, government agencies, healthcare organizations, coroner’s offices, cultural resource management firms, museums, schools, research institutions, and non-profit organizations.
