The Nathan Hubbard Trio – Concert Hour

The Nathan Hubbard Trio features guitarist Grant Fisher and bassist Harley Magsino, playing music covering Hubbard hummable catchy originals, great American songbook classics, and jazz re-working of modern pop tunes. The trio performs regularly at local venues like Panama 66, Seven Grand, Dizzys San Diego, and the Handlery Hotel, as well as events ranging from Summer Fun On The 101 to the Rueben H Fleet Center gala. A performance at the Handlery Hotel was recently featured on KSDS Jazz88.3FM. Their 2019 release This Stream was awarded “Best Jazz Album” at the 2020 San Diego Music Awards.
Nathan Hubbard is a composer and drummer, writing music for a wide range of ensembles and situations. Hubbard has presented his music across North America and bits of the European Union, was listed by San Diego Citybeat 2013 as one of eight top drummers in San Diego and won the 2014 San Diego Music Award for “Best Jazz Album” for his five volume Encinitas and Everything After. His large ensemble double disc Furiously Dreaming won the 2017 San Diego Music Award for “Best Jazz Album” and was listed as “Best Local Jazz release 2016” by NBC San Diego. His release Lattice Trust was awarded “Album of the Year 2017” by Avant Music News. Hubbard was listed by San Diego Citybeat 2018 as one of ten best drummers in San Diego. In 2020 Hubbard had the unique distinction of winning two San Diego Music Awards in two different categories – Best Jazz Album and Best Hip Hop Album.
Grant Fisher is a dynamic jazz guitarist who thrives on improvisation and experimentation. Currently based in San Diego, Grant received an MA in Jazz studies from NYU where he served as adjunct professor and studied with some of New York’s most prominent musical figures including John Scofield, Chris Potter, and Kenny Werner. Grant has toured throughout the US and South America and contributed to hundreds of recordings as a guitarist as well as producer and bandleader. He can be found performing across San Diego and his trio, JUX, is currently recording their second album.
Harley Magsino is one of San Diegos busiest bassist, playing a dizzying array of weekly gigs from jazz to country, electronic music to fusion. He released a CD of his compositions featuring his band HM3 in 2016 and has recently been busy with Ginger Cowgirl, Orchid Mantiks, Lauren Leigh and the LowKeys, and a host of others.
