José Martín Márquez is a professional Mariachi musician with more than twenty years of extensive experience in the study and performance of Mariachi and Mexican folkloric music. Lutenist, musicologist & composer Dominic Schaner grew up on a small family farm in rural California. Here, in this infinite expanse of nature, he was introduced to music at an early age. During his following musical life, Dominic has given concerts as both a solo & ensemble musician throughout North America & in Europe. An alumni of Palomar College, Dominic went on to study music at Boston University & the University of Cambridge. He has since completed research at Harvard University, and has lectured at colleges & seminars in the US & Canada. Dominic recently moved from West Sonoma County back to the hills of Valley Center. The Palomar College Chamber Singers and Palomar Chorale invite you to join us for the release of two virtual choir performances, with introductions by Palomar’s Director of Choral and Vocal Studies, John K. Russell. Dr. Russell will talk about the process of creating choral music in the virtual environment, how the choirs at Palomar are adapting to singing remotely, and speak about each of the works chosen for this performance. The two compositions, recorded by the Chamber Singers for this concert are Madelena Casulana’s beautiful Madrigal Morir non può il mio cuore (My heart cannot die) and Carlos Simon’s setting of Sanctus.
