COVID-19 – Promise FAQs

Due to Governor Newsom’s Stay at Home order and our commitment to protect the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff, all instruction and student services have shifted online. Check your Palomar College email for new updates. All official campus communication will be emailed to your Palomar College email address.

Current Enrollment Questions

We highly recommend that you continue to pursue the completion of your course(s) and encourage you to seek support from instructors, counselors as well as utilize the free online tutoring to ensure your success. However, we are aware and understand that you may not be able to continue to pursue your coursework at this time and will need to withdraw.

At this time, Palomar College is working in accordance with the California Community College Chancellor’s Office, as new updates in legislation and state-wide regulations are received daily. Please continue to visit this page for additional updates pertaining to the Palomar Promise program. In addition, we encourage you to check your Palomar email frequently for updates.

Palomar Promise offers the opportunity to petition eligibility determinations in the event of extraordinary circumstances (i.e. COVID-19). Detailed instructions regarding the Promise Petition process will be available in the next few weeks. Students are encouraged to consult with the counseling and financial aid offices prior to dropping a class.

 

 

 

We highly recommend that you continue to pursue the completion of your course(s). We highly recommend that you reach out to your instructors (email, canvas, online class meetings) and share your concerns, they may be able to offer additional support and resources that can assist you.  We also encourage you to meet with a counselor before you make any changes to your schedule to understand the potential impacts on your education plan, completion and/or financial aid.

Counseling

At this time, we will not be offering in-person Counseling Appointments. Students are being offered the option of meeting with a counselor via Zoom (video-conference) or telephone.

If would like to schedule an appointment with a counselor, please contact our office at promise@palomar.edu. When emailing us, please email from your Palomar student email account, and provide your full name, Student ID, phone number so we may contact you to set up that appointment.

Skillshops

We are offering a limited number of Skillshops via ZOOM. Please click here to view these offerings and to learn how to sign up for one of these Skillshops offered via ZOOM.

Tutoring Support

Palomar College offers online tutoring through Net Tutor; students access online tutoring through Canvas.

In addition, we are also exploring other distance assistance using our own faculty and tutors.Tutoring will be offered in the areas of accounting, business, computer science and information technology (CSIT), English, ESL, math, science and STEM, Spanish, and statistics beginning the afternoon of Monday, March 30.Click on this link to enroll in the Canvas Online Tutoring course where you will have access to all of our tutors. This service is free to all Palomar students. Once you enroll in the course, you will be able to access the course and our tutors from your Canvas Dashboard.

Textbooks

The bookstore is extending the non-return period without penalty for an additional 15 days past the current spring 2020 due date of May 26, 2020. This applies to all rental patrons, whether you rented in-store or online. The bookstore has free shipping return labels available. Free shipping labels must be accessed on or before May 26th. More details can be found at PalomarStore.com and will be included in your rental return reminder emails as the due date approaches.

If you prepay ordered in-store prior to the bookstore/campus closure, email 0688mgr@follett.com your name, your shipping address, phone number and email address for tracking the shipment of the order, and the campus bookstore will make arrangements to ship your in-store prepaid order directly to you with FREE GROUND SHIPPING.
