Teaching & Learning Center – San Marcos
Home to Palomar College’s Summer Bridge, First-Year Experience, Learning Communities, and the Faculty Resource Center.
Summer Bridge is a three-to-four-week, non-credit program whose goal is to assist dedicated new, continuing, and returning Palomar College students in improving their skills in English, ESL and/or math, while receiving instruction in reading and counseling. At the end of the program, students will have an opportunity to be re-assessed to determine if they have placed higher in the subject area.
The First Year Experience is a year-long college program focused on providing first-year students with the resources and support needed to transition successfully to college. The program encourages academic achievement, social integration, and personal success with the assistance of a strong support network of peers, staff, counselors, and faculty. Priority is given to students whose first credit enrollment is summer or fall of their first year at Palomar College.
Learning Communities are linked classes (such as math, English, reading, counseling, etc.) that allow students to enroll in related courses that have common or mutually supportive assignments. Students enjoy closer, more supportive relationships with their classmates, instructors, tutors, and the college. All classes of a learning community have the same group of students enrolled and must be taken concurrently.
The Faculty Resource Center is open to faculty and staff interested in professional engagement related to basic skills pedagogy and success. Our center features a library, a presentation area for small groups, and a small lounge space for reading and the sharing of ideas.
