Upward Bound is a year-round comprehensive academic college preparation and retention program that serves students from North County High Schools. UB provides academic instruction and support, and promotes academic excellence to high-potential college bound students preparing to attend and graduate from a four year university upon high school graduation.
UB is a federally-funded TRIO program through the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC. The program originated nationally in 1964 to assist underrepresented students achieve their post-secondary education goals. There are over 48,000 Upward Bound students served each year, from over 700 UB programs nationally in the United States.

During the Academic Year Component (AYC), Upward Bound offers the following services:

Summer Component
The Summer Commuter/Residential Component simulates a college going experience and is designed to provide students with the opportunity to enrich their academic skills in a college setting.
