Women’s Swim Team Splashes into the New Season

There are more girls with various levels of talent coming into the pool, according to Head Coach Jem McAdams.

“We coach them no matter how many girls there are but we focus on enjoying the process with them, It’s nice to see them grow individually and as a team–Most of them are first year swimmers meaning they have never swam at a collegiate level,” McAdams explained.

The newest addition to the Comets this season is Violet Stewart. “We definitely brought her in as a freestyler, that’s going to be the strength of us this year,” McAdams said.

As for the team’s strengths, three girls are under the watch as they are returning after placing high at the past CCAA State Championship.

Sydney Thomas, Jordann Heimback and Rebekah Blackburn are the excitement for the coaches and the fear of those that want to test their skills.

“Each individual has personal goals in swim but swimming faster than they have before in their lives is the goal for the conference championship,” McAdams said. “Not everyone is capable of being fast for state but there are some this season,” he added.

Assistant coaches Kody Moffat and Scott Lawson assure the athletes receive intense workouts to achieve physical strength. “ We train all year for this but they are on top of how hard they train,” McAdams said.

“Usually eligibility paperwork and sickness are the obstacles,” McAdams chuckled. “I’ve had some athletes train all year then get Mono— it’s just something we want to avoid before championship.”

The 2018 Women’s Swim team is ready to set records at their upcoming championships.
