False Report Fallacies

In Retroduction, the minor premiss is an observation which, because of its (presumably) surprising nature, prompts us to want an explanation. If the minor premiss is false, then this observation is an error. This puts us in the curious position of wanting an explanation for something that didn't actually happen, or that isn't actually surprising.
