I've used similar questions in my practice quizzes, so they're forced to think into the question without the stress of being graded on it.  It pushes them to be more prepared for the actual quiz (I occasionally use this type and now they're more prepared for that type of thought process).

Subject: [HAPS-L] Test Item Types

Hello, HAPSters,
To change some testing approaches, I want to try using some new approaches, including analogy-type questions:
e.g.   RADIUS:ULNA::TIBIA:_________.
Do any of you now use such questions?  Are you able to report any grand successes?  And how do students do with such question types?
