California

    California has always been the land of diversity.  Before the arrival of Europhones, more languages, lifestyles, and ecologies were present here than anywhere else in North America.

     This is true today, as more Indian people from a greater number of tribal groups live in California than in any other state.  

    These pages will introduce you to the lifeways of the original inhabitants of California, those who lived here before Indian people were forced off their lands en masse and into the cities of the West.
