Easter Island
A partially carved head. The ones which were finished were moved into place on rollers made of palm trees.
Some heads were put in place on Easter Island look out to the sea, others were abandoned along the way when the Island was vacated.
Probably more palms were cut down than the environment could sustain because palm pollen disappeared from the mud in a pond at the same time that the people who made these huge effigies left the Island. |
