Parkas and Mukluks

All clothing in the Arctic is very much like a space suit.  It is completely waterproof, windproof, and insulated against temperatures as cold as -105 ºF.

Women do all of the sewing.  In this way they controlled life and death for a poorly made garment meant sure death by freezing.  Women showed their artistry by creating beautiful patterns in various colors of fur.

Women carried their babies inside their parka where skin to skin contact meant sure warmth and convenient, on-demand nursing.
