Mica was perhaps the most highly valued material imported into the Ohio Valley from Tennessee and North Carolina. Mica is a translucent mineral which forms in thin, brittle layers. It was carved into many forms, including mirrors, and also was used to line the graves of the important residents. It was valued, most likely because of the implicit spiritual nature of its ability to be both reflective and translucent at the same time. |
