College Links

The following colleges or programs within colleges have done interesting things and appear to be moving toward the Learning Paradigm.  This list is a work in progress; I'm sure many others should be added to it.  I supplement it as I gather new material.

Alverno College.  A four-year liberal arts college for women in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Alverno is deservedly famous as a leader in learning innovation, especially its pervasive assessment-as-learning philosophy.

The Evergreen State College.  A state-sponsored liberal arts college in Olympia, Washington, Evergreen has been a leader in the development of innovative interdisciplinary curriculum.  It also sponsors the Washington Center for Improving the Quality of Undergraduate Education, which provides a variety of resources and information.

The Liberty Hyde Bailey Scholars Program, Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan.  The Bailey Scholars program describes itself as "a community of learner within Michigan State University's College of Agriculture and Natural Resources."  It demonstrates that transformative programs are possible even in a large university setting.  The Web page contains a lot of information.

Olivet College.  A four-year liberal arts college in Olivet, Michigan, Olivet has embraced many of the best learning-centered innovations in the Olivet Plan.  Excellent Web page.

The Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) has gathered together a Consortium on Quality Education, a group of colleges that have been selected as exemplary for movement toward a focus on learning.  The criteria and examples of the colleges are discussed in its Greater Expectations report.
