Using Blackboard

Note:  You may want to print these instructions out or open them in a separate window so that you can refer to them while logged in to Blackboard.

To login to Blackboard go the the login site.  Click the Login button.  Then enter your user ID and password.  Your user ID and password are the same ones you use to login to E-services.  If you want to change your password, go to E-services to do so, and the changes will be effective in Blackboard as well.  Save Your E-mail Address

Make sure that the e-mail address that you use for Blackboard is the one you want to use for the class.  To change or enter your e-mail address, you need to go into E-services. Make sure that if you have more than one e-mail address listed that you designate the correct one as preferred. 

Set Privacy Options

In order to make sure that your e-mail address will be available to everyone in the class and that your group page will work correctly, you need to make sure that the Privacy Options are set correctly.  Go to Tools > Personal Information > Set Privacy Options.  Under "1. Personal Information," make sure that the box next to E-mail Address is checked.  If it isn't, click on it, and a check will appear.  Under "2. User Directory Status," click on the box next to "List my information in the user directory."  Then click Submit.  Go back to the roster and check to see if your e-mail address appears.  If it still doesn't, or it you have some other problem, let me know.

Load Your Personal Introduction and Photo

Now save your personal introduction and a digital photo on your Blackboard class homepage.  To do this, go to Tools > Homepage.  There you can simply paste your introduction into the box titled Intro Message.  (You may, if you wish, have a separate intro message and put your introduction under Personal Introduction.  But there is no need to.)  After you have done this, if aren't going to load a picture at this time, just click Submit at the bottom of the page.

If you have a digital photograph of yourself that you'd like to insert here saved to a disc or on your hard drive, simply click Browse next to the line that says New Image and locate the file on your disc.  Click Open in the dialogue box and the filename of the photo should appear in the New Image line.  Then click Submit at the bottom of the page.  

Check Your Homepage

In order to confirm that your information was saved correctly go to Roster.  Click the List All tab, then click again on the List All button that appears in the bottom right-hand corner.  Find your name in the roster that appears.  Check to make sure that your name is spelled correctly and that your e-mail address is correct.  Then click on your name.  That will open your homepage.  Check it over.  If you would like to change anything, just go back to Tools > Homepage to make changes.
