This is week 16 of the spring semester. You should submit your weekly update by the end of the day today.

Your working draft portfolio is due today. Upload it to your Web site by the end of the day. The working draft of your portfolio will consist of the essays that you plan to submit for your portfolio in their present form. It is assumed that you will revise them further. However, for now, just include those essays in a single document and upload it to your Web site.

Portfolio Preview:
Your final portfolio will be due Wednesday, May 20. You will also need to submit your Portfolio Self-evaluation on that day. You must submit the portfolio and complete your self-evaluation by the end of the day.
Keep in mind the following reminders, concerning your portfolios, word count, and essays:
1. You need to have a minimum of 6,000 words of text in your four essays in order to pass the course. (We discussed that at the orientation and it is clearly stated in the FAQ.) However, your final portfolio needs to be only 4,000 words (same section of the FAQ). That means that you do not need to use all of your essays in the portfolio, but can select your best work.
2. There is no specified number of essays in the portfolio. You may use three essays, or all four. (Remember, the 4,000 words is a minimum, not a maximum.) Or, if you have written one or two essays that are significantly longer than the minimum of 1,500, or if you decide to expand one or more of your essays as you revise it, you may have a portfolio of two essays. I have had students in past semesters who have merged two essays on related topics and submitted a portfolio with only one long essay. All these options are acceptable. It is entirely up to you. The only requirements are that the portfolio consist of your original essays, produced this semester, and consist of at least 4,000 words.
3. The way I will calculate the word counts is thus: I will select the text of each of your four essays, as they are posted on your Web site, beginning with the first word of the first paragraph and ending with the last word of the last paragraph. I will copy the text of each essay and paste it into a word processing document, all four essays in one document, and will do an automatic word count. That count has to be 6,000 words or more. I will do the same thing with your portfolio to calculate the 4,000 words. So if you have greatly expanded one of your essays in revision, you may want to upload the expanded version to replace your originally posted essay as well as to your portfolio.
4. The portfolio, no matter how many essays are included, should be a single file, one document. Do not just create a table of contents page with links to your essays already posted. Copy and paste the text of each essay you want to be in your portfolio into the portfolio document, which should have a filename consisting of your last name. Mine, if I had one, would be tagg.htm.
