Format and Requirements for Revised Essays

1.  For your revised essay, make sure that the word "revised" appears at the top of the document.  The best place to put it is right under the title.  This will let your peer reviewers know for sure that they are reading the revised version rather then the working draft.

2.  Put the word count at the end of the essay.  Remember that the revised essay must be a minimum of 1500 words (500 words longer than the minimum length of a working draft).  That includes the paragraph of the essay, but not the title or list of works cited.  Please do a word count on the essay and put the word count at the end, following the list of works cited.

3.  Put your thesis thesis statement after the word count, the very last thing at the end of your essay, labeled "Thesis Statement."

4.  Save your revised essay as a Web page.  (The suffix for the file name should be .htm.)  Save it under a filename consisting of your last name, all lowercase, followed without space by the number of the essay and the suffix ".htm."  So if your last name were Brown, you would save your first essay under the name  "brown1.htm" and your second essay under the name "brown2.htm"--and so forth.

5.  Upload your essay to the Pluto server by ftp before the time or class meeting when it is due.  (See FTP Instructions on how to do this.)  Because your revised essay will have the same filename as your working draft, the revised essay will replace the working draft on your Web page.  Make sure that you have saved your working draft on your own hard drive or on a disc because it will not remain on your Pluto page after you have uploaded your revised essay.
