GCIP 140 - Digital Imaging/Photoshop I former student comments about this class:

This was a really good class! I enjoyed it a lot! I liked how we moved at a fast pace. It definitely intimidated me at first, but i was really happy that we moved that fast. I liked that because you briefly went over the lesson & what should be done in the project and then you had us figure out the rest. I learned so much more that way. As the semester progressed, I laughed about how things that confused me at first became so easy. When I would make mistakes & I played around with photoshop to fix it, I would make connections between different lessons. I like how everything built up on each other. Each lesson was focused on a specific aspect of photoshop, but in each project I was using skills I learned from previous projects. It reinforced what I had learned before.

When I needed help, there was always someone near by who could re-explain things to me. Also, surprisingly, there were things that I knew how to do that others around me didn't. By re-explaining how to do things, I learned a lot more and it helped me really remember it. I think over all, this class was really well balanced between instruction and self-learning.

You have a lot of patience with students and you treat us as equals. I have a lot of respect for you and I really enjoyed your class! So, thank you for everything this semester!! – C.B. F08

Another thing that I really liked about this class was your teaching style. I don’t like classes that I get bored with. If I’m ready to move on, then let me move on. I liked that the pace of this course kept me working and didn’t make me slow down because a couple of people weren’t ready to move on. I was interested and curious throughout the semester and was challenged a number of times to figure out how I was going to make an effect or get a project done. Having a class that’s challenging and face paced kept me from getting bored, and I hate being bored.

I liked that this class had a real world feel to it. Most classes seem to give you an "educational" perspective on a subject, art, or program. This class had a much more "real world" feel to it. We weren’t given busy work that would just slow us down from learning. We were given projects that taught us real world uses for the tools in Photoshop. – D.M. F08

The speed in which you taught the class was perfect. I think that as long as you payed attention then it was very easy to understand everything and it felt like i was able to learn a lot more then with a teacher who goes over every step over and over. – I.G. F08

When I first came into class within the first couple of days I really thought I would fail. Everything taught to us looked incredibly difficult, foreign, and complex. Going fast when your lecturing is actually great once you have been in the class for a while, but the first few classes were overwhelming. I remember the first lesson we ever did - everything you said flew past my head that I was so lost that I actually wondered if I made a mistake and should just drop the course.

I would come into class worried about the grade I would receive and whether I should drop the course or not. Once I got the first project finished and didn't get a bad grade I really started getting into Photoshop at home... I often found myself appreciating all it could do for various outside projects I was working on. I actually took things I would learn in class and apply them to projects I was working on in my everyday life... Thankfully I was able to stay in your class and learn so many things that made photoshop a really fun program. – F.L. F08

The first thing that I enjoyed about this Photoshop course was that all the projects where interesting to me, I didn’t think any of them were tedious or boring. I liked the fact that each project had a real world application, in that, each project that we did was something or incorporated something that you could use in a real life scenario.

In the color assignment I enjoyed the whole process of using the tools, and using different layers to keep things organized. I also enjoy the fact that we had a guest speaker, who did this kind of work for a living. I thought that is was awesome and encouraging to here that she was a former Palomar student who was applying the skills she learned to jump start her career. I had never heard of a colorist before. – T.M. F08

I really enjoyed student tutorials and how everyone had their own unique style of teaching and showing different techniques to make different styles of artwork, whether it was font effects or just making a completely new image from scratch with cool effects. I constantly fool around with tutorial sites at home in my spare time trying to make new effects.

I also enjoyed designing the website... It gave me a chance to use my creativity on something I’ve never worked on before and I learned a lot from doing so. It was a very fun project and I’ve even started creating my own at home, and hopefully I’ll be able to do what I wanted to do in class by making my own website with my own artwork and be able to share that with others who enjoy photoshop.

I really enjoyed the class and am looking forward to taking photoshop 2 next semester. Thank you Mr. Bealo for your help and expertise in the subject, and I’m really looking forward to possibly making graphic design a career choice of mine. – K.J. F08

I like how the class is three hours long. It gave me a lot of time to think of ideas and be creative. Also, without Mark I don't think this class would have been as badass. It's been nice having a teacher who's so well educated in Photoshop... We got to cover almost all of the tools, so there isn't much I would add to this class. The only thing I didn't like was the writing parts. There wasn't many though so I didn't mind it. – T.B. F08
