COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

An exhilarating class designed to introduce students to the vibrant

Hispanic culture through contemporary popular social dances. Through

demonstration and movement participation students will explore a

variety of social dances that are all part of the Latin Diaspora. We will

focus on dances from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and

Brazil. Merengue, Bachata, Salsa, Son, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba,

Mambo, and Casino are the dances we will study.

Articles to be handed out.

 

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND GRADING:

 

80% Participation

10% Field Trip

10% Movement Final

 

CLASS ATTIRE:

 

Loose fitting clothes, dress shoes appropriate for social dancing, no

sweats, no hats, and no gum. Breath mints are acceptable!!! Remember

you will be dancing with partners, so please be aware of your personal

hygiene. Neat, clean appearance, please!!!

 

If you are ill you will not be allowed to participate. You will be required

to sit and take notes.

 

ATTENDANCE is a major part of your grade. The class experience is the

whole class.

 

This class may be taken for CR/NR instead of a letter grade.
